Outbreaks of rain will spread across Scotland from the southwest during the early hours of Wednesday morning. This will become slow moving across the warning area through Wednesday, with heavy and persistent periods of rain leading to accumulations of 100-120 mm in some locations. Information on update: Warning area extended eastwards across Aberdeenshire. Areas of heavy rain along with some thunderstorms will continue to move north and west across the warning area during this morning, with further periods of heavy rain to come this afternoon and evening. Hourly rainfall accumulations of 30-40 mm are possible in places this morning, and locally totals of 70 to 90 mm in a few places by the end of the day. Surface water and disruption to transport is likely.

Rain will turn persistent across much of the north of Scotland through Wednesday and overnight into Thursday with some heavy outbreaks. This will lead to large accumulations building, most likely across the eastern part of the Great Glen and around Inverness where accumulations of 80-100mm are possible in 24 hours with 60mm more widely across this area. Given the rainfall of recent days this is expected to lead to some surface water flooding and disruption.
